Choosing a roof system
If you are in the process of constructing a new commercial space – the type of roofing system you implement may not be your biggest concern other than the fact that it must meet industry and local standards.
Roofing systems for commercial buildings should be carefully considered for a variety of reasons. The roof is probably one of your largest investments in your commercial building and if the roof fails you could lose inventory, company downtime and sales.
When considering the construction of a commercial building you should look to see if the roof complements and works with all the components of the building. Consider whether the design is right for the space, the surrounding area, and the building’s intended use.
Other questions that you need to ask concern choosing the best materials for your building and your specific needs. Are you familiar with the different options in terms of roofing installation?
Does your site offer the required access for the installation of the roof, and are you familiar with what kind of equipment might be required for your roof installation? These are the types of questions that need to be answered when choosing your commercial flat roofing system.
Working with you to fin the best solution
We will go over the different types of roofing options for your flat roof including a Built Up Roof referred to as BUR, asphalt roofing, single ply rubber roofing and liquid membrane roofing. Each type of roofing systems has advantages and disadvantages and it is good to understand the differences.
A built up roof (BUR) was traditionally constructed of tar and gravel with hot tar being alternated with layers of both stone and some type of waterproofing material. BUR roofs are now often made with fiberglass materials including high performance felt which is installed on site with multiple layers of felt which is put on with hot bitumen or torches.
The felt can be made of polyester or elastomeric. If you are looking for a cost effective roofing system a BUR roof could be the right roofing system for you. Other choices include asphalt roofing which is a great solution for flat roofs as it is both strong and weatherproof.
Single ply rubber roofing called EPDM is an ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber membrane that is sunlight resistant and durable. Kemper liquid membrane roofing is another option and is both seamless and tear resistant. To discuss your commercial flat roofing needs call to set up an appointment with Roof Control.
